Where is the deposit for a rental?
The law establishes an amount of one month's rent but the landlord may require, as additional guarantees to the deposit, the delivery of two other monthly rent payments, so that finally the amounts delivered by the tenant may be a maximum of three monthly rent payments.
The deposit can never be kept by the lessor. Once the tenant delivers it, the owner is obliged to deposit it in the Autonomous Administration where the property in question is located. If it is true that each Autonomous Community has a specific regulation regarding the deposit of the rental deposit, the truth is that its non-compliance is a reason for an economic sanction.
On the other hand, once the rental contract ends, the owner has a period of one month from the delivery of the keys by the tenant to return the deposit.
