Will you be a tenant for the first time? Eight critical questions you should ask your owner

  1. Roommate Restrictions. It is very important if there is any kind of restriction, since this will prevent you from having problems if you invite people to your house or if you decide to share your apartment once you are already renting.
  2. What kind of service is included in the rent. Ask if there is TV cable, Internet, water, electricity, gas or if garbage service is included.
  3. Renewal of lease time. Could you renew the contract month by month? You never know what your circumstances will be in a year from now, so it's best to know what the possible contract renewals are.
  4. Security measures. In order to have a pleasant experience in your new home, it is important that you know what security measures are in place in the property.
  5. Pet Policy. If you have a pet it is very important that you ask if pets are accepted in the property, as this may determine that you finally choose that floor or not.
  6. Parking options. If you often use your own vehicle, you should assess whether the parking area is too far from your new home. If so, perhaps a property with a parking space or garage is better suited to your routine.
  7. What type of insurance does the property have and what type of insurance would it require? The complex must be adequately insured for fires, floods or other natural disasters. As a tenant, you can and should request a copy of said insurance.
  8. How close is the nearest public transport? Even if you use your own vehicle, you may need to use public transportation at some point. Ask where is the nearest stop and what type of transport is involved.
