What is Mid Century Modern?

Modernism was an artistic, cultural and literary movement that emerged at the end of the 19th century until the beginning of the 20th century that was characterized by the intention of breaking with current styles and creating a new one in which nature predominated while new derivatives were incorporated of the industrial revolution.

Thus, in the world of decoration, they opted for a more functional finish. Handicraft was added to this as a production process to maintain the elegance of the furniture.

Years later, this modernist style evolved into the current Mid Century Modern whose main axis are functionality. It is characterized by the preference for handcrafted furniture with simple shapes, elegant curves and clean lines. In addition, both furniture and textile materials are committed to geometric prints.

Another factor to take into account is the use of elements with a mechanistic aesthetic, such as steel beams, which are reminiscent of the industrial revolution of the time of the movement.

Finally, the entrance of natural light is one of the most remarkable characteristics of this decorative style. Thus, the large windows that connect the interior with the exterior and nourish the home with natural light are prioritized.
