Subsidies and Rental Subsidies in Catalonia 
1. Rental assistance for young people up to 35 years of age: This is an assistance programme designed to subsidise the payment of rent or the transfer of the use of housing or rooms for young people up to 35 years of age. 
 
Key aspects to note about this assistance programme include: 
·      Assistance between 20 and 250 euros per month, maximum. 
·      Be 35 years old or younger. 
·      The dwelling must be the habitual and permanent residence. 
·      Registration at that address is required. 
·      The property must be located in Catalonia. 
·      Income must not exceed 23,725.79 euros per year. 
·      The owner of the property cannot be a family member. 
 
This assistance or subsidy can be up to 20 % of the annual amount of the rent when the payment of the rent is equal to or less than 30 % of the person's income. This percentage can be increased to 40 % if the effort needed to pay the rent exceeds 40 % of the income. 
 
2. Rental Assistance for Persons aged 36 to 64: This assistance programme is also closed as of 12 May 2023, but may be reopened in the future. It is aimed at people aged between 36 and 64 who live in Catalonia and have difficulty paying for rental housing. 
 
Key points to note about this assistance programme include: 
·      Assistance between 20 and 250 euros per month, maximum. 
·      Be between 36 and 65 years old. 
·      The home must be their habitual and permanent residence. 
·      Registration at that address is required. 
·      The property must be located in Catalonia. 
·      Income must not exceed 23,725.79 euros per year. 
·      The owner of the property cannot be a family member. 
 
If the rent payment represents more than 30% of the person's income, the rental assistance can be up to 20% of the annual amount, but increases to 40% if the applicant has to spend more than 40% of his or her income on renting the property. 

3. Rental assistance for people aged 65 and over: Older people are also a particularly vulnerable group when it comes to paying for housing, even if it is a rental property. 
 
Key aspects of rental assistance for older people include: 
·      Assistance of up to 200 euros per month. 
·      Over 65 years of age. 
·      The home must be their usual and permanent residence. 
·      They must be registered in the dwelling. 
·      The property or house must be located in Catalonia. 
·      The income of the family unit cannot exceed 23,725.79 euros. 
·      The owner of the property cannot be a family member.
